How a Beauty Girl Can Reduce Her Carbon Footprint

How a Beauty Girl Can Reduce Her Carbon Footprint

Wondering how you can do your part and leave less behind? Now is the perfect time to dig out all those beauty products you have stashed in your medicine cabinet collecting dust. Did you know that you can cut down on your carbon footprint by just making a few small changes within your daily beauty routine?

By now, you might be wondering how your beauty routine even contributes to your carbon footprint. Some things aren’t as obvious as your gas-guzzling car. Dermatologist Dr. Debbie Palmer explains that both our beauty habits and the beauty products we use contribute to our impact on the earth. Beauty habits cover everything from taking a shower to styling your hair to using your post-workout makeup wipes. When you look at beauty products, that includes packaging, processing, ingredients, and our shopping habits. Here's a few things to keep in mind!

1. Use what you buy. Using what you buy sounds so easy right? But everyone's skin is different, if the product reacts poorly on your skin or causes irritation it may not be for you and that is okay. So if you can't use it up, sell it to benefit somebody else.

2. Purchase upcycled products if / when you can before buying brand new.

3. Instead of tossing your skincare bottles in the trash after your finished, recycle them! YFM participates in the Zero Waste Box Program with Terra-Cycle. They have created a zero waste solution for beauty products and packaging.

3. Less is more. Take a deep breath and slow down, the 10 step Korean skincare routine isn't going to solve your problems.

Don’t worry, reducing your carbon footprint doesn’t simply translate to “stop buying new beauty products.” Thankfully and that's why we are here to help guide you :)
